
She attended Austin High School where she was a cheerleader and member of the debate team graduating in 1940. While attending the University of Houston she met and married John Carey, an Air Force Cadet stationed at Ellington Field. They lived in Bellaire, Texas and later in Bunker Hill Village raising a family of four boys. She was a very special and active mother supporting her children in social and sporting events. She loved her many friends, playing bridge in the Every Other Friday Bridge Club for over 50 years. She was a founding member of St Cecilia Catholic Church and a docent for the Museum of Fine Arts and Rienz.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Carey, parents John Duncan Morrison and Ellen Ryan Morrison; son Michael Carey; and three brothers, Donald, Patrick and Jerry Morrison. She is survived by three sons, Jim Carey and wife Sherry, Ted Carey and wife Lacey and Chuck Carey; grandchildren Christine Carey, Tim Carey, Chad Carey, Andy Carey and wife Megan; and great grandchildren Gordon, Nora and Stella Gianadda.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 17, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 3502 North Main Street, Houston, Texas 77009. A reception will follow interment at the home of Ted and Lacey Carey.
