

Mary had a lifelong passion for music, and earned her Bachelors degree in music at Lindenwood College in 1949. Mary started her career performing in radio broadcasting and musical theater. After starting her family, Mary then became an elementary education teacher. Her love of teaching led her to becoming the religious education director at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Houston, Texas followed by work as a paralegal for local law firms. Mary was a devoted Roman Catholic, attending St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Houston and St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake in Lago Vista, Texas. During her retirement in the Texas Hill County, Mary was involved in the Point Venture Lions, Lago Vista Lions, Seton Hospital Auxiliary, and the Hill Country Singers.
Mary is survived by son Karl F. Rugaard and wife Louise of Cypress, Texas; son-in-law Harold K. Montross III of Pasadena, Texas, and daughter Robin Cramblit and husband Douglas of Austin, Texas; along with seven grandchildren and their spouses Karen Rugaard Ward (James), Christopher Rugaard (Jodi), Adam Cramblit (Amanda), Captain Harold K. Montross IV (Allison), Matthew Rugaard (Stefanie), Stacey Cramblit (Alfonso Rodriguez), and Brittain M. Driscoll (Joseph); and ten great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years Gordon W. Rugaard; daughter Marbeth M. Montross passed away in 2018.
Serving as pallbearers are Adam Cramblit, Alfonso Rodriguez, James Ward, Joseph Driscoll, Christopher Rugaard, Matthew Rugaard and Capt. Kenny Montross.
A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Cypress Creek Funeral Home, 9149 Hwy 6 N, Houston, TX 77095. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 2:30 PM, 9149 Hwy 6 N, Houston, TX 77095. A committal service will occur Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 4:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. A burial will occur at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079.
