

Mary Lee Cooper Ward, known by her loved ones as “Mimi,” died peacefully on Monday, the 29th of April 2013. Her husband of 49 years, Clifford Gordon Ward, and her sister, Betsy Cooper, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, Robert Carrick Ward and wife Mary Clare, Jeannie Ward Frazier and husband, Greg, Susie Ward Overbey and husband Robert; her grandchildren Robert Ward, Jr., Tommy Ward, Hallie Ward, Bryan Frazier and wife Lauren, Matthew Frazier and wife Mary, Allison Frazier Wardroup and husband Michael, Lauren Overbey Moudy and husband Dustin, and Taylor Overbey; and her precious great-granddaughter, Lillian Elizabeth “Ellie” Frazier, who was the light of her life. Other survivors include her sister, Barbara Davis of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Bill Cooper and James Cooper and wife Charlene, of Boerne, Texas.
Lee was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on the 23rd of September 1926, to George Carrick and Marian MacGillivray Cooper. She attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1948 with a B.S. in education. She and Cliff were married in 1949 in Chillicothe, Missouri. After several relocations with Armco Steel, they settled in Houston where they raised their children.
Lee was an avid golfer, winning the club championship at Pine Forest Country Club in 1967 and she was the proud holder of three holes-in-one.
Over the years Mimi loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and she had a special relationship with each one of them.
A memorial service, celebrating her life, is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 1st of May, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where Dr. Dwain Camp, Interim Pastor of Bethel Church, is to officiate. Serving as honorary pallbearers during the services are her five grandsons.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
