

Mary E. (Sudie) Abbott West went to live in her heavenly home on June 25, 2015. She was born in Blytheville, Arkansas April 24, 1940. She was a graduate of Blytheville High School and attended Baylor University. She graduated from Baylor in 1962 as a Speech/Language Pathologist. She later attended Sam Houston State University to earn her Masters degree in Special Education. While attending Baylor, she met and married the love of her life, Robert O. (Bob) West. They lived in Mart, Texas for a couple of years before moving to Houston, Texas.
Sudie worked in Spring Branch I. S. D. as a speech therapist, coordinator for the speech therapy program and as a supervisor for special services. Later she helped to develop and implement the Skills Development Center, a training program for regular education teachers. After retiring from the district, Sudie did consulting for various organizations. She was a member of the Gulf Coast Council for Exceptional Children and is a past president of that organization. After retiring, she and Bob enjoyed seeing the world together.
Volunteering for various jobs in the churches that she attended, Sudie has taught Sunday School classes and Bible Studies at both Tallowood Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church. Most recently she has been very active in the Joy of Living program at Second.
Sudie was preceded in death by her parents, Garrett and Frances Brown Abbott. She is survived by husband, Robert (Bob) West; her brothers, Fred and Charles (Bug) Abbott; her children Kristi West Wishon and Mikal West; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home at 13001 Katy Freeway from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 1st. Memorial Service will be at 12:30 pm on Thursday, July 2nd.
