Matthew Douglas Smith

Matthew Douglas Smith was born on Scott Air Force Base on April 20, 1969 and passed in Cypress, Texas on April 22, 2026 after a short battle with cancer. He was lovingly surrounded by his family and friends.

Matt will be missed by his wife of 28 years, Lori, daughter Jazalyn (Colby) Lesher, son Colton (Paige) Sirey, and daughter Shelby Smith (Cole Connelly). Mother Janet Akery, father Greg Smith, brother Aaron (Barbara) Smith, sister-in-law Jolene Akery, Stephanie Evans, and Jonathan Montiel as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Matt proudly served in the United States Navy during Operation Desert Storm. He spent his life working in construction with his latest job at JRM Construction as Construction Superintendent. When he wasn’t spending time with his family, he was spending weekends with his best friend Bruce (Tory) van Valkenburg watching Nascar races and Astros games. A few of Matt’s favorite things included hunting, golfing, all things space and aviation related, and smoking a brisket while enjoying a couple of glasses of good bourbon.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday June 19, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home- Cypress Creek 9149 Highway 6 N, Houston, TX 77095.
