Melesio Trevino Garcia, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend went home to God on Sunday morning, August 20, 2023, he was 93. Born December 4, 1929, to his parents Perfecto Garcia Perez and Feliciana Trevino Garza, in Monterrey, Mexico, and grew up there with his sisters, Aurora, Genoveva, and Sofia, and a younger brother, Hector Candelario. Melesio and his future wife, also named Aurora, grew up in the same neighborhood and they met as teenagers. He had many friends and after finishing high school, he took several trips to Mexico City and other places, including many archaeological sites in Mexico. In 1952 Melesio made his first visit to the USA, visiting New Mexico, Arizona, and California. He married the love of his life, Aurora De Leon Rodriguez on August 23, 1953, and they were together for 62 years. In 1957 Melesio and Aurora moved with their children, Aurora and Fernando, to New Mexico, and had two more children, AnaMaria and Mario, while living in Las Cruces. In 1962 the family moved to San Antonio, Texas. Melesio's three sisters and their families lived in San Antonio and most weekends were spent at one sister's home or another, with lots of cousins and family gatherings for birthdays, weddings and holidays. In 1965, Melesio and Aurora made one more move to Houston, a place they would call home for most of the rest of their lives.
Melesio had worked with his father in a printing shop in Monterrey. He continued a career in printing and operated various presses for both printed materials and art lithographs. He was meticulous in his work, and was always working, either overtime at work or on one of his many home projects. Melesio and Aurora made many car trips to Monterrey when the family was young. It was summer fun to visit grandparents and enjoy family time at "Cola de Caballo", a favorite waterfall park, near Monterrey, or to stroll along "La Alameda", enjoying the fountains and playgrounds, eating ice cream, and listening to music. After their children grew up, Melesio and Aurora loved to travel, and they took many vacations all over Mexico. In 1987, they built a home for their retirement in the small town of Villa de Allende, Mexico. They had many visitors while living there. Their friends and family would enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery and take walks through citrus orchards to the river or go to the village to have dinner in one of the small restaurants surrounding the plaza or cook big meals at home. Another favorite pastime was just sitting on the porch, surrounded by plants and pets and talking with whoever came by to pass the time of day. They lived in Mexico for several years, but after the grandchildren began to arrive, they returned to Houston. After his wife Aurora went to heaven, Melesio would still travel to Monterrey often, on the bus, alone.
Melesio and Aurora enjoyed dancing and loved to dance at weddings, parties and clubs. Melesio had a love for animals, especially dogs, often having more than one at a time. He liked the game of pool and was kind of a shark, playing often, especially later, after his youngest son Mario bought a pool table. He was also an avid bike rider and spent many afternoons at the bike trails along Buffalo Bayou riding with his children. Later, he switched to walking everywhere, often taking 5 to 6 mile walks, with or without his dogs. Even as he aged, he would take long daily walks in the neighborhood, striking up a conversation with just about anyone he saw with a dog or a baby. Melesio just liked to be outside in the sunshine and he loved going to the LeVrier Farm and to Galveston to eat seafood and stroll the beach. He enjoyed daily picnics at the park with his daughter Ana. They liked to watch the children on the playground and to count the dogs playing in the park, it was their thing, and he really enjoyed that. Trips with his sons to Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, and other national parks in New Mexico and Arizona and to visit his daughter Aurora in California were favorite times for Dad and he especially liked trips to Monterrey with his son Fernando.
Melesio's beloved wife got her angel wings in May 2015. He is survived on this blue planet by his children and their partners; Aurora & Chris, Fernando & Mary, Ana & Gene, and Mario & Deborah. 9 Grandchildren, Elena, Andrew, Brandi, Travis, Matthew, Tracy, Jacob, Brianne and Bailey, and 5 Great Grandchildren, Tyler, Leila, Carter, AlanaRose & ClaraJane, and by a host of relatives in San Antonio and Monterrey, who will miss him dearly.
