Merilyn was born on the 28th of August 1930, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Emma Lee and J. Kirk Lindsay. She attended Baton Rouge High School and graduated from Louisiana State University where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority.
She married the love of her life, Earl D. Elliott, Jr. in 1951 and celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage before he lost his courageous battle with cancer. Merilyn and Earl settled in Houston in 1956 and moved to the Memorial area in 1962 where they raised two children, Brett and Lisa.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Merilyn became a prolific and talented painter, displaying her favorite works in her beautiful home. She loved traveling the world, gardening, tennis, bridge, reading and spending time with her two grandchildren. She enjoyed entertaining and was known for being stylishly dressed, even on a tennis court.
After her move to Texas, Merilyn maintained long and deep relationships with many of her childhood friends and developed many new ones in Houston, who often became travel buddies.
Later in life she became a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.
Merilyn was predeceased by her husband, Earl D. Elliott, Jr.; her son, Brett L. Elliott; her brother, J. Kirk Lindsay, Jr.; and her parents.
