

Michael Wainwright Brennan passed away on April 2, 2016 in Houston, Texas at the age of 68. Michael was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 4, 1948. An Air Force “brat”, he lived in Duluth, MN, St. John’s, Newfoundland (Canada), and Biloxi, MS. He graduated from high school in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Michael received his B.S. in Geology from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1970. Michael completed Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and was commissioned into the United States Navy as an Ensign. He served for two and a half years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. Subsequently Michael did graduate studies in geology at the University of Oklahoma. He went on to a career in the petroleum industry, working at Gulf Oil in New Orleans, and Occidental and LL&E in Houston. After 23 years in the field of geology and oil exploration, he retired in 1998. Mike was a member of the Houston Geological Society, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Houston Friends of Archeology. Michael was an active member of the Lazybrook Civic Club. His passions included archaeology, military history, automobiles, and collecting antiques. Mike also loved classical studies. On his own he learned classical Latin and Greek. He loved the history of ancient Rome and travelled to Italy to see for himself the places he read about and studied.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Major Edward C. Brennan, Jr. and Christine Shaw Brennan, as well as his brothers Timothy Shaw Brennan and Patrick William Brennan.
Michael is survived by his sister, Mary Margret Virginia Brennan Thomas, and brother-in-law Dr. Raju Thomas, and extended family.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, April 16th at Pat H. Foley and Company Funeral Home, at 3:00pm.
