Michael Mun-Bun Chan passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side on Sunday, July 20, 2014. Michael was born on September 22, 1937, in Canton, China. After a transient childhood fleeing the conflict of World War II, his family settled in Hong Kong where he attended Pui Ching Middle School. He continued his education, completing an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Taiwan National University in 1959 and a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Stanford University in 1961. He married his college sweetheart, Sue Tseng, in February 1964 in California where his daughters, Andrea and Christina, were born. After working in San Francisco, CA, and Harrisburg, PA, he moved to Houston, TX, with his family in 1974. He worked as a civil engineer for Brown and Root and Halliburton, officially retiring in 1992. He continued to work as a consultant in oil and gas with companies seeking to expand their businesses in China while visiting the local churches in China. He served as a deacon and elder at West Houston Chinese Church and was particularly involved in the Cantonese Fellowship. Mr. Chan is survived by his wife, Sue Tseng Chan; his daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea Chan & Lee Baughman and Christina Chan-Park & Jerry Park; his two brothers, Maynard Man-Wai Chan and Man-Tuen Chan, and their wives; his four sisters, Helena Pui-Yu Pang, Pui-King Wong, Pui-Chu Yu, and Dorothy Pui-Yuk Ko, and their husbands; and his aunts, Mabel (Chan) Huang and Emma (Lee) Fung.
