Michael Anthony McGaw passed away peacefully at his home in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday the 15th of April 2025, at the age of 58, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Michael’s spirit and endearing charm lit up every room, a light that never dimmed– even at the very end.
Born the 11th of August 1966, in Fort Worth, Texas, Michael graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth and later from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Communication. After graduation, Michael moved to Houston to begin his professional career at BBDO and Bates Advertising. He made the transition to the music industry with Pace Concerts, which ultimately became Live Nation. He found a home at Live Nation, where he worked for over 26 years and rose to the position of Vice President, Senior Managing Director. The role allowed him to merge his love for music and people, forging meaningful relationships across the country and profoundly impacting the lives of many.
To say Michael was a proud Longhorn would be an understatement; his passion for the team was constant throughout his life. A season ticket holder since graduation, he rarely missed a home game and loved traveling to away games with friends. His enthusiasm for Texas football, was just one example of his zest for life. Michael discovered his love for golf after college, and it quickly became his favorite pastime– something he especially enjoyed sharing with friends and colleagues. Over the years, he built a vibrant community of friends who shared his interests. Whether you needed a band recommendation or tickets to a show, Michael was your go-to guy. Known for his loyalty, Michael was the kind of friend who always showed up. His love for the Longhorns, live music, and golf was only surpassed by his love for family. Michael was a devoted husband and proud father, roles that brought him his greatest joy.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Trisha, who was his college sweetheart and love of his life; his children, Jenna (Ryan) Fondren and Ashley (Scott) Hurwitz; his brother, Steve McGaw; his in-laws, Gloria and Marvin Fishman; his brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Diane Fishman; and two grandchildren, William and Mackenzie Fondren. Affectionately dubbed “Buddy” by his grandchildren, Michael cherished every moment spent as a grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose Marie Gordon and Ernest Allen (E.A.) McGaw, and his sister, Christy Jump.
A celebration of Michael’s life is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday the 23rd of April in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
