Michael is survived by his three sons, Greg (with wife Paula), Steve (with wife Dinica), and John (with wife Elizabeth), as well as his cherished niece April (with husband Nick). He leaves behind five grandchildren—Toni, James, Faith Michael, Michael, and Natalie—and April’s children, Levi, Colton, and Remington. Michael’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Rhya, Kyler, Broc, Haley, Carly, Hunter, Cooper, Emma, and Abby.
Born the second son to Lowell and Dorothy Pounds, Michael grew up in Indianapolis and Pittsboro, Indiana, alongside his siblings Scotty, Dale, Fran, Tom, Dennis, Ginger, Mark and Joe.
After graduating from high school, Michael married the love of his life, Joni, and soon enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Thus began a distinguished 26-year military career, much of it devoted to military intelligence during the Cold War. Rising to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, Michael served in numerous countries across multiple continents, including Taiwan, England, Finland, Italy, Greece, and West Germany. His family often accompanied him, embracing the adventures of life abroad. In addition to his military achievements Michael earned multiple college degrees during his years of service.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, Michael transitioned to the private sector, ultimately joining Boeing. There, he contributed to advancements in signals technology for both commercial and military applications. Notably, Michael’s work enhanced the capabilities of Air Force One and supported U.S. Army vehicles in theater following the attacks of September 11.
Michael found great joy in golf and motorsports, often assisting with his son’s racing team during his retirement. He was known for his wit, his capacity to find reason and humor in all things, and his ability to spread happiness while achieving his goals in life.
