

Michael was born on January 16, 1975. He graduated from Katy High School in 1994 and enlisted in the Army in 1995. His 20+ years of service was nothing short of extraordinary, including times in air defense, as a jumpmaster, in satellite communications and finally as a Blackhawk pilot. Michael was a lifetime member and supporter of the VFW. He was also dedicated to Alzheimer’s awareness.
Michael was devoted to family, friends, flying and fishing. He had an optimistic spirit that would light up a room and bring joy to those around him. One of his favorite bible verses was Philippians 4:8.
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think on these things".
Michael is survived by his son, Nolan Tharp and Nolan’s mother, Jessica Tharp of Louisville, KY; mother, Anita Tharp of Katy, TX; four siblings, Kenneth Gwynne and Meredith Ray of Katy, TX, Monica Waggoner of Rockport, TX and Megan Jansen of Leavenworth, KS; one grandmother, Dorothy Tharp of Trinidad, TX; an uncle, John Richards of Springfield, VA; aunts, Deborah Anderson of Petersburg, MI and Vicki Goldman of Lakeway, TX, a great aunt, Margie Chambers of Richardson, TX; three nieces, two nephews and several cousins.
