Milman Parry Youngjohn

“John” Milman Parry Youngjohn, 93, of Houston, TX, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020. He was born to the late Ramiel Youngjohn and Lucile Parry Youngjohn in El Paso, TX, on October 2, 1926.

John was married to his beloved Beverly Bender Youngjohn for 68 years, marrying May 27, 1951 in Lodi, CA. He is survived by his wife Beverly of Houston, his sister, Christine “Kit” Henry of San Diego, CA, and his three children, Paul Youngjohn and husband Dean Theiss of Houston, Carol Youngjohn Lee and husband Rodney Lee of Santa Monica, CA, and Mark Youngjohn and wife Robyn Maldegen Youngjohn of Houston. He was a proud grandfather to Amanda, Katelyn and Caroline Youngjohn of Houston and Rodney “Razz” Lee II, of Santa Monica, CA and a proud uncle to Raif Henry of Escondido, CA and Susie Sheppard of Seattle, WA.

John spent the first few years on a farm just east of El Paso in Clint, moving to El Cajon, CA during the depression where his father owned an orange grove and chicken farm and his mother was a socially active housewife. In 1944, the day after graduating El Cajon’s Grossmont Union High School, he joined the war effort as a PFC gunner and radioman aboard the USS PC-570 serving in the Pacific Theater. In 1946, he enrolled in the University of California-Berkeley, where he met his wife, graduating with a BS in Bacteriology in 1950. He began his career with Golden Citrus in Anaheim supervising orange juice production, transferring to New York City in 1963 as Sales Mgr. In 1970, he was transferred to Houston, reuniting with his beloved Texas, where he retired as National Marketing Mgr for Minute Maid products in 1989.

During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world, hunting and boating on the Highland Lakes of Central Texas and his farming and ranching activities in Wharton and Mategorda counties.

A private burial will occur immediately with a memorial service to be scheduled when the COVID-19 threat has passed.
