

Mitchel Augustine was born September 29, 1945 in Vielle Case, Dominica. He was the son of Justine George and Moise Augustine, but raised by his aunt Justina Dahlrymple. Mitchel moved to St. Croix Virgin Islands in his early 20’s to pursue a welding career at Hess Refinery, where he stayed for many years. while living in The Beautiful Islands of St. Croix he met his gorgeous wife of 43 years, Gloria Augustine. Together they raised an extraordinary family. In 1976, He moved to Baytown to work for Brown and Root before moving him and his Family to Houston in 1978. In 1989, he made the defining move to Alaska, the state that ultimately stole his heart. Mitch made a name for himself there in the booming oil industry as an artistic and accomplished welder. His incredible work ethic paved the path for his 3 sons Everett, Eric and Mitchel to follow in his footsteps as the name “Augustine” became legendary. From the tropical islands to the frozen north, Mitch became known as “The man from Alaska”, a nickname he boasted of proudly. His life was truly an epic adventure. Despite of the fact that Mitch was on dialysis for the last 10 years of his life, he didn’t let his failing health slow him down. Many weekends you would find Mitch on the bus heading to a pool hall or a pawn shop in downtown Anchorage. His outgoing personality and engaging smile won the hearts of everyone he encountered making it even easier for him to make friends everywhere he went. There aren’t enough words to describe the social and adventurous life of Mitchel Augustine because he was selfless, compassionate, honest, funny, and loved; he was “The Man from Alaska” and so much more.
