Willie Eugene Simon was born on July 14, 1953 to the late Mr. Albert Simon Sr. and Mrs. Elvina Norman Simon in Houston, Texas. Willie was the tenth child of twelve children and the youngest son of six to Mr. and Mrs. Simon. Willie accepted Christ at an early age at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Also, he developed a strong passion for cooking from the Creole influence of his mother, Elvina. He graduated from Kashmere High School Class of 1971. He went on to pursue his love for cooking, zydeco/blues music, and horses by catering the foods at the local trail rides. Willie became best known as “Chilly Willie.” After working at Armco Steel Co. for several years, Willie ventured on to Mrs Baird’s Bakery where he later retired. Willie was known as a people’s person and a stranger to few. He was a very caring, joyful and giving individual. He was an excellent cook especially with the Cajun dishes. Friends and family will miss his homemade spicy boudain and dirty rice with riblets that he prepared with love. His favorite past time was traveling to New Orleans. He referred often to as his “second home.” Willie’s friendly and uplifting spirit easily placed smiles on everyone’s faces. Sometimes it was inevitable that he made you have a good ole’ belly laugh. Chilly Willy was definitely the life of the party! He is preceded in death by his parents: Albert Simon Sr. and Elvina Simon and five brothers; Charlie Simon, Doyle Simon, Richard Simon, Albert Simon Jr., and Leroy Simon. Willie leaves to cherish his memories: his six loving sisters (Annie Mae King (Crosby, TX), Barbara Jean Cosey, Shirley Davis, Mary Pete, Catherine Barnes, and Gerridean Gibson (all of Houston, TX) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
