

Lillie West Smith was born on July 9, 1941 to the late Hamuel and Lovenia Malveaux West in Roanoke, Louisiana. While she was still a young child, she moved to Jennings, Louisiana with her family. Later, she accepted Christ and was baptized at Union Baptist Church. She attended the schools in Jennings, Louisiana and later enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA for two years. Finishing her education at Memorial Herman Nursing School, she worked as a compassionate nurse for more than 30 years until she retired. Lillie was the proud mother of 5 children whom she loved dearly. She treasured her time with her children and enjoyed the roll of “Mother” and especially “Grandmother”. Her grandchildren were her “Pride and Joy”. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She had a listening ear which made her a willing confidante for many, and a wonderful smile that would light up a room. Lillie lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures like chatting and visiting with family and friends. She was a faithful and active member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church until her illness. She is preceded in death by her parents; Hamuel and Lovenia West, her sister; Cora McZeal and her two (2) brothers; John and Hilton West, and her beloved husband; Simon Smith. Left to carry on her legacy and cherish her memory are her five (5) children: Dwayne Thomas, Jennifer Johnson. Tillman Rochester Jr., Derrick Rochester Sr. (Jackie), and Sonja Hall (Darnell). Three (3) sisters; Bessie Butler and Viola Victor of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Evelyn Julian of Crowley, Louisiana; One brother; Milton West (Brenda) of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Annie West; sister-in-law; Thirteen (13) grandchildren and five (5) great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
