

Nancy was born in 1932 in San Mateo, California to the late Mary Cullinan Cravens and James Rorick Cravens of Houston.
She graduated from Chatham Hall in Chatham, Virginia in 1950 and attended Smith University for one year. She was married to Dr. Charles Devere Chamberlain, Jr. from 1954 to 1974. In 1975 she received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston, and received her MA in English Literature from the University of Houston in 1980.
Nancy Chamberlain was known for her generous volunteer work which included helping the underprivileged by teaching adult literacy classes in Houston for ten years, tutoring children at Gregory Lincoln Elementary, and counseling alcoholics and drugs addicts.
She was preceded in death by her first daughter, Anne Chamberlain who passed away in 2002.
Nancy is survived by her brother, James “Chico” Cravens; sister, Patsy Cravens; daughter, Mary Chamberlain Marecek; daughter, Laura Chamberlain Wright; son, Dr. Charles Devere Chamberlain III; and five grandchildren, Daniel, Peter, Joshua, William, and Jennifer.
The funeral service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 16th of August, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
