Nancy Jean Johnson ,age 92, completed her journey on November 3, 2025 after a long and loving life. She had an amazing adventure over nearly 93 years. Married to Bob Johnson for 59 years, Nancy was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and good friend to many.
Born in Phoenix, AZ in 1932 to Dorothy and Harlan Dole, she attended college at Arizona State University and Iowa State University, where she received her degree in nutrition and dietetics. She met and married Bob (Robert) Johnson in 1955 and raised three children, then went on to spoil four grandchildren and provide refuge to a number of cats and dogs.
While her family was her first priority, she also lived out her commitment to community and service. In her teen years, she was proud of her service in the Rainbow Girls. As an adult, she worked at a number of hospitals and nursing homes, both in Ponca City and north Houston, as a Registered Dietitian. She was an active member of Northwoods Presbyterian Church, where she served a term as an elder and participated in several committees and service projects. Near and dear to her heart were the friendships she developed through her local covenant group. She was a proud Kappa Delta alum and found community with them wherever she lived. In Greenwood Forest, her neighborhood for 48 years, she participated in book club and women’s club and served as a regular volunteer reader at a local elementary school. Socially, she helped organize a Mexican Train group and was a frequent mall walker with her friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of service, family, and wonderful memories, along with a vast amount of material on ancestry and several collections of tchotchkes, for which her children must find homes.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Johnson; her parents, Harlan and Dorothy Dole; and her brother, Jim Dole (survived by Betty Rose). She is survived by her three children, Lesli Johnson, Linda Johnson (Richard Murphy), and David Johnson (Nicole Johnson); her brother Jack Dole (Francine Dole); five grandchildren, Shannon Hillegeist, Matthew McWeeny (Paige Bennett), Hayden Johnson (Mary Johnson), Samantha Johnson-Noyes (Blake Noyes), and Ian Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Katharine Hillegeist and Callan Johnson. She was also a dear friend and aunt to many others, too numerous to mention.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Northwoods Presbyterian Church, 3320 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 2 PM, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:
