June was born October 22, 1929 in Lefors, Texas, the daughter of Lv Yandell Hoskins and Floyd Clarence Hoskins.
After the tragic passing of her father, Lv and June eventually settled in Coalinga, California. June graduated from Coalinga High School in 1946. It was there she met the love of her life, Donald Gene Laswell.
After Don joined the United States Marine Corps, the two were married April 14, 1951 in a military ceremony in San Diego, California. The two shared nearly 70 years of happy marriage, with Don preceding June in death on February 6, 2021. While raising their four daughters, Don worked for Chevron Oil, with his job taking them around the country. The Laswells lived in Seattle, Bakersfield, New Orleans, Anchorage, Midland, amongst others, and eventually settled in Houston in 1969.
There, the Laswells made countless friends, and June was able to pursue her passion of painting while taking frequent trips to continue her extensive genealogical research.
The couple eventually moved to Tyler, Texas in 1999, where June was involved in many clubs and organizations, including the Newcomer’s Association and Red Hat Society, and regularly played bridge with her many friends.
On January 1, 2016, Don and June moved into their home in Richmond, Texas, where they made many new friends through June’s bridge group and throughout the neighborhood.
June loved many, and was loved by many, many more. She truly believed in the ability of chocolate to cure all; to celebrate the good and forget about the bad; to forgive; find the beauty and good in anyone or anything; to laugh and choose joy; and to always eat dessert (and first, should you so choose!). She loved her family, including researching the many, many generations that came before, anything Texas, including blue bonnets and armadillos, painting, chocolate, history, and her dog Princess Tiny Toes, or just Tiny, for short.
Remaining to cherish memories of June are her four daughters and their husbands: Linda Warden, and husband Ken of Tyler, Texas, Janet Myers, and her husband James, Missouri City, Texas, Lavonne Huey, and her husband Michael, of Richmond, Texas, and Marleen Curtis, and her husband Mike, of Columbus, Texas. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren: Kim Harper of Middletown, California; Kevin Warden, of New Braunfels, Texas; Elizabeth Picone, of Houston, Texas; Lauren Curtis, of Sealy, Texas; Christin Capiro, of Columbus, Texas; Jessica Simpson, of Farmington, New Mexico; Shannon Curtis, of Columbus, Texas; Louis Beyer, of Richmond, Texas; Sean Huey, of Richmond, Texas; and Eileen Huey, of Laredo, Texas. She also has 14 great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
June was preceded in death by beloved husband, Donald Gene Laswell; mother, Lv Yandell Hoskins; and father, Floyd Clarence Hoskins.
A graveside service will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 21, 2025. Friends and family to meet at Houston National Cemetery at 9:45 am in lane 1.
