Born in Richards, Texas on February 23, 1930, to Robbie and Willie Raglin, Sr. She was devoted to her family, her church, and her pastor.
Naomi was a proud alumni of Prairie A&M University and served as an instructor at each duty station she lived with her husband, Army Staff Sgt. Fred D. Witchet, Sr. and her children.
Naomi was an educator, a voting rights activist and a human rights activist who took on what was known as the War Department in 1966 to win veterans of color the right to be laid to rest in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery here in Houston when her own husband, a Vietnam casualty, was denied that right. She served as a poll watcher for many years collecting the poll tax assessed at a time when it was necessary for people of color to pay to vote. She was adamant about voting and insisted on participating in drive through voting when she was no longer able to stand at a voting booth.
Naomi is survived by four living children, Fred D. Witchet, Jr. (Peggy), Fredell Harding (Edward), Lennis Witchet (Jettie) and Carl Witchet, Sr. (Roslyn). Aside from the children she doted on, Naomi is survived by sisters, Juanita Thomas & Pearlie Mae Love; brothers, Nathan Raglin (Willie Lee) & Edgar Raglin (Brenda); sisters-in-law, Ebbie Raglin & Velma Raglin; daughter-in-law, Debra Witchet; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
