Nate was my NCIS Agent Afloat during the 2017 CVN 77 cruise. Immediately, he came to the legal office and made an impact. We worked together and he kept telling me to finish my degree and apply for NCIS. I think about it all the time but feel that my naval career is not yet over. He was a good friend and a great person to network with. Fair winds and following seas brother. 

Nate worked for me when he was the Special Agent Afloat aboard USS George HW Bush (CVN-77). To say Nate did a great job would be an understatement, he owned that ship! He took pride in his assignment from the moment he was selected and he continued to feel part of that ship long after his assignment was over. His ability to develop relationships and connect with people proved to be invaluable. Nate was about a week or two from leaving the ship for his next assignment when the NCIS Norfolk Field Office hosted about 20 Police Chiefs from the Hampton Roads region of Virginia aboard the ship. The ONLY way this was possible, was Nate. Because Nate asked, the ship said yes. During the luncheon, there was a non stop procession of sailors stopping by to greet Nate and say their farewells; they could care less about all of the Police Chiefs or us, they came to see Nate. Nate was an outstanding NCIS Special Agent and an even better human being. Fair winds and following seas shipmate.

We only knew Nathan as a child. When he was around 10 years old, his mom Kathleen, went on a business trip to Europe and Nathan stayed with us for two weeks.
  He and my son Rob became the closest of friends. He was a sweet boy, filled with imagination and energy!

I first met Nate on the side of Route 95 in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, in 2015 when I was a Trooper there. I was on a stop and noticed a Charger pull behind my cruiser and a bearded man in plain clothes approached me. Nate quickly introduced himself, said he was an NCIS agent and asked if I needed anything.  

That one chance meeting with Nate changed my life forever. Nate told me to take down his contact information in case I ever needed anything and just before we said good-bye, mentioned that he had a few VIP tickets to the Blue Angels air-show at the Quonset State Airport the upcoming weekend and if I wanted to go, to let him know.

Uncharacteristically, I decided to take him up on his offer and reached out to him to go the air-show. Although we had just met, Nate treated me like a best friend when I arrived, bringing me into the VIP tent and introducing me to his friends and colleagues. 

From that point on, we stayed in regular contact and would get together frequently. I always loved hearing his old war stories from his days as a Miami cop. Nate became my biggest advocate as I was beginning to feel stagnant at the State Police and encouraged me to apply to a different agency. I took his advice, applied, and was accepted.

I even slept in Nate’s apartment the night prior to my first day at the academy, just another small example of his generosity. Nate drove down to watch me graduate as the only friend to attended in addition to my family. I remember how proud and happy he was and his love for law enforcement was evident.

In June, I was away on assignment in Spain when I received a call from Nate. It had been a while since we last spoke and despite the time difference (and international fees), I felt the need to answer. We spoke for over an hour, caught up and as we hung up I remember how refreshing it was to have such a great friend, one that TRULY cared.

I will always cherish the friendship we had.  Rest in peace brother.  See you on the other side.




I first met Nate in 2015 and we immediately became friends. His magnetic, energetic personality and love for life was infectious! He was the eyes and ears for the Blue Angels and always did an exceptional job managing the security measures for the team. We couldn’t have pulled off the 2016 Super Bowl without you brother. I will miss our chats, the good times spent together and your friendship.

In the 1980’s , I had the opportunity to meet Nathan when we were police explorers for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.  He was a good friend with a lot of drive and bearing for the life ahead of him.  He was truly invested in his law enforcement future. He truly loved the thrill of the chase. Nathan’s natural pursuit of his professional life was nothing less than exemplary.  He had the canny ability to use humor while coping with otherwise impossible situations. I remember a time when we hadn’t spoken for quite  a  few years  and he showed up at my door unannounced, rang the door ball, and yelled through my door “Don’t try to act like you’re not home”. I was elated to see my friend. Through the years he always expressed to me how important his family was and spoke of his uncle frequently. Nathan was always a leader since we were kids and he lived a life as a patriot with honor and integrity many men would find unimaginable  or unattainable. His drive and perseverance impacted my bearing without a doubt. I will miss you in this life brother , but I can’t wait to see you in the next.  These days i don’t cry so easy brother. The news of your passing caused my two little kids to  see their dad cry for the very first time and for the loss of his friend.  They hugged me and cried with me.  Rest in heaven my friend, and I’ll see you when that time comes. Your memory will always live with me.  I will miss you troop!

It's great sorrow to hear of the passing of Special Agent Nate.  I have memories of him stopping by the flag deck at FCC/C10F to talk to Senior leadership and the last time I saw him he mentioned that he had recovered from illness. My prayers and thoughts go to his family and friends.  He had a genuine smile and enlightening presence about him. Taken to soon rest easy Nathan.

I met Nathan through Randy and Lisa - his passion for his family was evident!  Nathan was full of life!  He had recently become part of NCIS at that time and was so excited.   Randy, I know how much Nathan loved you and Lisa and how much you all meant to him. I am so very sorry for your loss and our hearts and prayers are with you both. 

I've known Nate for the last 10 years and it was an awesome 10 years. He brought light into many people's lives when they were at their darkest moments. No matter what it was Nate always had your six. I'll never forget his kindness. To give you an idea of what I mean - We talked about how I was going to the Air Fest at MacDill AFB and all he said was, " just make your way to the VIP area and tell them your name". That day my wife, a Blue Angels fan girl, got to do a walk around on  Blue Angel #2 post show...his friend was the pilot!


Selfless. That is how I will always remember him. Smooth seas old friend...Until we meet again.

I met Nathan attending Cooper City High when I was 15, goofing off in Health class. Nathan over heard I was getting my drivers license soon and said to me “Dude, come pick me up!” Well, I did and that’s where a life time of laughs, adventures, and memories began. Nathan was like a brother to me and my Best Man when I got married. He was a very generous person and was always there for anyone who needed him. His passion for law enforcement started very early as a teenager when he was an Explorer. I always knew he would pursue his dreams of something bigger. My heart hurts and I’m gonna miss him terribly. My sincerest condolences to his family for their loss. Godspeed Nathan…until we meet again my friend!

Special Agent Nate O’Connor’s final duty station was NCIS Liaison for Fleet Cyber/TENTH Fleet.  He previously was Special Agent Afloat onboard USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN-77).  A good man, a good friend, a good agent . . . and a good Shipmate.  We all know that Nate is now sailing the Big Deck in Heaven.  From all of your Shipmates in TENTH Fleet and the U.S. Navy . . . Nathan and I were police explorers together for Miami Beach PD.  We were friends for many years until he moved away and we lost touch.  We had a lot of fun times together in Highschool and after. He was a great friend and an awesome cop. His passion for law enforcement was like no other.  I will always remember him. My prayers go out to his family and friends. RIP Nate


I had the pleasure of meeting Nathan when I was 19 years old. I always wanted to be a police officer. Nathan was working for Miami Dade at the time and I would ride along with him. Nathan, known as “boy foolish” was a fantastic cop and was a magnet for finding stuff. I owe my career to him and I never forgot that.  He recommended me and helped me to get hired. Almost 24 years later,  I never forgot him doing that for me. To hear he passed away was a punch in the gut to say the least. I still can’t believe it. To his family and dear friends  I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are will you during this difficult time. Thank you Nate for everything you did for me. I will miss you greatly. 

Nathan worked with me at the NCIS Albany, GA office. He was very well liked in the office by all. Nathan has been to my residence in Leesburg, GA and was well liked by my family also. Fair winds and following seas Nathan. Murray Strait

I have had the honor of knowing Nathan for the last 18-20 years. Although it has been a virtual friendship it has been one of my best and closest online friendships I have had. The Laughter, the Anger and tears will be missed and there is already a hole in our community that is felt by many. You were always there to help people in there time of need, Whether it be a memory upgrade to help out someone in between jobs or or a complete laptop to someone so they could keep hanging out with the the group while they were on the road.  Or just being there to be a soundboard to work out  problems. You were always there for the community.  
You will be missed my friend.
