Nena Faye Hopkins passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on March 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and quiet strength. She was born on December 22, 1922, in McGregor, Texas, to Charles and Clara Reed. She grew up alongside her beloved younger sister, Bobbie, with whom she shared a lifelong bond full of laughter, stories, and sisterly devotion.
In 1943, Nena married Julius R. Hopkins, and together they raised three sons: John, Charles, and Bob. She was a devoted wife and mother, spending most of her life in Houston, where she embraced her role as a homemaker. Nena also worked as a bookkeeper and later enjoyed her time at Foley’s department store, where her warmth and kindness left a mark on those she worked with.
After Julius’ passing in 2003, Nena and her sister Bobbie shared a home once again, bringing their bond full circle. They often joked that all they needed was “one more” to be the Golden Girls. Her sense of humor, love for her family, and steadfast faith were constants throughout her life.
Nena was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and carried her Christian faith close to her heart. She found joy in her family above all else, and her passions kept her mind active and her spirit curious—whether she was diving into a book, tracing her family tree, tinkering with computers, or challenging herself with games and puzzles.
She was a friend to everyone she met, known for her good conversations and welcoming heart.
Nena is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Julius R. Hopkins; her sister, Bobbie Reed; daughter-in-law, Jamie Ray Hopkins; and her parents, Charles and Clara Reed.
She is survived by her three sons, John, Charles, and Bob Hopkins, and daughter-in-law Sylvia Hopkins. Her love lives on in her grandchildren—Ananda (Pineapple), Eli, Michael (Laura), Rachel, Sam (Erica), Sara (Steve), and Mathew; her great-grandchildren—Preston, Kate, Carter, Ava, Reed, Chiara, Troy, Sal, Demetrios, Coco, Bella, and Isha; and great-great-grandchildren—Alexia and Ruby.
Her legacy is one of warmth, wit, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
