Nereyda Delgado, age 83, devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Holguin, Cuba (the 6th of 12 children). In 1962 she and her two daughters Renee (age 2) and Mariana (age 1) immigrated to the United States to join her Husband, their father, in NYC. He had immigrated earlier for political reasons. In 1973 the family, now including a son, Richard, born in the Bronx in 1967, moved to Houston, Texas. She is predeceased by her devoted and much loved husband, Rene Delgado Perera, who passed away in their home, Easter Sunday, April 11,1983, after a long battle with cancer.
Nereyda loved to sew and was an accomplished seamstress, a talent she put to good use to successfully own a small drapery business in Houston. She loved to sing, play loteria(bingo) with family, and eat sweets. She loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed watching her great grandchildren play in her home. Nereyda was a significant support for her children and grandchildren during her life. She was, before her lengthy illness, an active member of the Spanish speaking community of her parish, Prince of Peace, using her sewing talents to serve her faith community.
Nereyda is survived by her loving family: daughter Renee, and John(husband),daughter Mariana, and Tiolin(husband), son Richard, and Veronica(wife). She was one of 12 siblings of which 2 live in Houston, her sisters Lutgarda and Niurka. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren(Maria Felicita, Carlos Anthony, Cecilia Elena, Luis Rene, Marilin, Crystal Anne, Michael Nathan, Alexa Renee, Richard, Alysia, Raymond) and 7 great grandchildren(Loukas, Julian, Evi, Richie, Mila, Mya, Jake) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the kind Doctors, nurses, professionals, and staff of North Cypress Medical Center who attended Nereyda during her last hospital stay, shortly before her death. The family is also grateful for the excellent care received through Vantage home hospice.
