

Nester Chavez went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2023 at the age of 97. A visitation for Nester will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 2516 Navigation Blvd., Houston, TX 77003. A rosary service will occur Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., 2516 Navigation Blvd., Houston, TX 77003. A visitation will occur Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 2516 Navigation, TX 77003. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 3006 Kashmere St., Houston, TX 77026. A committal service and military honors will occur Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023.
The Pallbearers are Ernest Chavez, Jr., Isaac J. Alvear, Robert A. Chavez, Nester Chavez III, Juan F. Chavez, Thomas R. Quintero. The Honorary Pallbearers are Mary L. Mungia and Jolynn S. Ibarra.
Nester Chavez was born April 22, 1926 in El Charco, Texas which is now known as Goliad, Texas. His parents were Benito and Señorina Zuniga Chavez. He was the second oldest with his siblings being: Señorina (Nina) being the oldest, Concepcion (Concha), Helena (Helen), Dora (Dona), Crespin (Pepe), and Joe. In 1938, at the age of 12 years old, he and his family moved to Houston, Texas. Nester attended Marshall Junior High School. He met the love of his life Casimera Ramirez Chavez. They married on March 8, 1945. They had six children. They were married for 52 years until she was laid to rest to join the Lord.
At the age of 17, Nester voluntarily made the decision to join the United States Army during World War II serving from 1946 to 1948. After being Honorably Discharged, Nester was given a grant to attend the University of Houston and received his Certification as a Mechanic. Nester worked for several years at a company called EJ Quade Automotive. In the 60s, Nester passed the required Exam at the United States Postal Service and was hired. They sent him to the University of Oklahoma to study. He then became an Automatic Transmission Specialist. In 1986 an unexpected accident took place that caused him to retire from the U.S. Postal Service after working about 20 years. After recovering from his accident, Nester continued working at the family's business, J.C.'s Reproductions, Inc. for 20 years. After retiring from J.C.'s Reproductions, he then continued working at Xtreme Quality Printing, with his son and grandsons, for an additional 15 years. Nester loved working on cars and maintaining them. He drove his car until the age of 90. In recent years, Nester enjoyed taking road trips to the casinos with his sons and visiting his daughter. Nester enjoyed playing dominoes, checkers and cards but his favorite was dominoes.
