NGUYỄN ĐĂNG LAC, 76, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018, after a brave battle with glioblastoma multiforme, a form of brain cancer. He was born on December 5, 1941 in ĐỒNG HỚI,QUẢNG BÌNH,VIỆT NAM to NGUYỄN ĐĂNG XÂN and TỪ THỊ ĐƠN.
He served in the South Vietnamese Navy as an officer during the Vietnam War. It was during this time that he met the Honorable Gerald Scott, an American Naval Officer, who was fighting alongside him.
Lac fled South Vietnam, leaving his beloved country in April 1975, with his family. The family eventually landed in Duncan, Oklahoma, under the sponsorship of Dorothy Scott, the mother of the Honorable Gerald Scott.
In Duncan, Lac worked as a pipe fitter for Tosco Oil Refinery. He got involved in his children’s extracurricular activities by coaching their youth soccer teams.
The family later moved to Webster, Texas where he owned and operated laundromats and later worked for Minh Foods.
Lac is predeceased by his parents. Lac is survived by his wife, Nga; six children with former spouse, Bong: Kiet (Anne), Jackie, Cuong, Stefani (Albert), Phong (Giao) and Paul; four grandchildren: Katelyn, Nathan, Megan and Audrey; older sister, NGUYỄN THỊ THANH LIÊM; younger brothers, NGUYỄN ĐĂNG HƯNG and NGUYỄN ĐĂNG SƠN; and younger sister, NGUYỄN THỊ THANH LY. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park, 2454 S. Dairy Ashford Rd., Houston, TX 77077 on Thursday, April 26, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, April 27, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. A celebration mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Christ The Incarnate Word Church at 8503 S. Kirkwood Rd., Houston, TX 77099 with a blessing at the funeral home immediately afterwards.
