Nguyệt — whose name means "Moon" in Vietnamese — had a gentle, steady way of bringing light into people’s lives. She passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the age of 77, with her loved ones by her side. She leaves behind so much more than memories — a legacy of love, quiet strength, and deep devotion to her family. She gave so much of herself, always putting others first, and the warmth she shared will stay with us forever.
Born in the town of Nguyễn Tuân, Việt Nam, Nguyệt was the second eldest of 8 siblings and gracefully stepped into the role of caregiver after the passing of their mother. She fulfilled her mother’s final wish — to look after the family — with unmatched selflessness. From a young age, she lovingly sewed clothes for her younger siblings, took them to school, cooked for not only her family but her father’s employees, and comforted the little ones with lullabies and bedtime stories. She was a steady presence, offering both guidance and unconditional love, often without needing to speak a word — her actions said it all.
During the Vietnam War, while volunteering at a hospital, she met her future husband, Lộc Đỗ, who had been injured in combat. That moment sparked a love story that would span nearly six decades. In 1979, Nguyệt and Lộc began a new chapter in Houston, Texas, where they built a life together and raised their beloved daughter, Trang Quỳnh Đỗ Stark. Their family later grew to include Trang’s husband, Jeff.
Nguyệt had such a love for travel and adventure. She was always excited to head out on a cruise, explore a new country, or just spend a simple weekend away with family. For her, it wasn’t just about the places she visited — it was about the people, the laughs, the memories made along the way. She loved joining tour groups and would happily return to her favorite spots again and again. But more than anything, Nguyệt was happiest when she was with the people she loved. She had the most generous heart, always putting others first, always ready to help or share what she had. She made everyone feel welcome, and she touched the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Lộc, and the brothers who went before her — a heavenly family reunion full of love and peace.
Nguyệt is survived by her devoted daughter Trang Quỳnh Đỗ Stark and son-in-law Jeff Stark; her late brother Nguyễn Tuấn Thanh’s two children and four grandchildren; her brother Nguyễn Tuấn Khải with his wife; her sister Nguyễn Thị Nguyệt Hương with her husband, their two children and three grandchildren; her brother Nguyễn Tuấn Khôi with his wife, their three children and two grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members — all of whom carry her memory in their hearts.
Nguyệt’s loyalty, grace, and quiet strength touched every life she encountered. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with the love of her life. Her moonlight will continue to shine through those she loved so dearly.
