A Houston native, she was born at home on the 24th of August 1920, the daughter of Emmett and Nita Fore.
She graduated from Reagan High School in 1938 and went on to attend Massey Business College and worked during the war effort.
She met Harold P. Hill in 1940 and married him in 1941 on his leave from the Army. She accompanied him to Laredo and Southern California and then returned home to live while Harold participated in WWII.
Upon his return, she worked as housewife and mother while Harold began a career in bookkeeping that led to a job in construction management. Then he worked on the development of Oak Forest Subdivision. He lovingly named “Nina Lee Lane” after her….she has a ‘fan club’ in Oak Forest!
Harold began building homes on his own and Nina was his partner in their fledgling lumber and home building businesses, helping with office tasks and the books.
Nina returned to being a wife and mother as the companies grew to become Masterpiece Homes which built 3500 homes in the Houston area from the 50’s to the 80’s.
In these years, while raising her children…Nina was a member of Tanglewood Garden Club, was one of about a dozen early Tanglewood wives who formed a group called the “Tuna for Lunch Bunch” who continued to meet for many years and remained friends.
Nina was a descendant of the Theis Family who immigrated in 1846 to the Tomball - Rosehill area. She was extremely patriotic, loved anything red, white & blue, and faithfully supported the Olympics, especially because her brother played baseball in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
Nina was a gracious and elegant lady who maintained wonderful, longtime friendships and a great social circle of other wives and mothers. She was kind and witty and will be missed by many.
In 1984, the couple retired to April Sound and enjoyed 20 great years of semi-retirement, which included world travel, golf and social activities with a new group of friends. They were active and founding members of April Sound Church.
Before Harold’s passing in 2003, the couple had made plans to move back to Houston to be nearer to family, and Nina completed that move in 2005, where she resided at The Buckingham Houston until her passing.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Emmett, Jr. and her loving husband of 62 years, Harold. She leaves behind her loving family including sister, Betty Craig; son, Wayne Hill and his wife Bonnie; daughters, Nancy Hill and Shirley Hill; granddaughter, Sara and her husband Brandon Dismukes; grandson, Ryan Hill and his wife Valerie; and great-grandchildren, Dakota and her boyfriend Ben, Griffin, Max, Miles, Cooper and Creed, and numerous nieces, nephews, loving friends. She was eagerly awaiting the October arrival of her first great-great grandchild.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 22nd of April, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
An interment service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 23rd of April, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery; 6900 Lawndale Street in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Nina’s name be directed to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (a charity helping to cure cancer), 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266; or to the charity of one’s choice.
