Norma Laxamana Sagun, 78, of Spring, TX, passed away on September 1, 2024 with her husband by her side. She was born on March 4, 1946 to the late Eufracio and Estelita Laxamana in Angeles City, Philippines.
Norma graduated from Holy Angel High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Far Eastern University. She married Dick Sagun in the Philippines on June 1, 1974; they celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Soon after getting married, they moved to New York City in 1975, where they had their daughter, Aileen Sagun Ortega. 1982 they moved to Houston, where their son, Dr. Dean Sagun, was born.
In the Philippines, Norma worked as a school teacher. After moving to the States, she worked in the banking industry and retired as a Dillard’s sales associate for Lancôme and as a substitute teacher for public and Montessori schools. She was an active member of the Northwest Filipino-American Community for many years. As a devout Catholic, she attended mass daily and went to prayer meetings weekly.
Norma’s vibrant personality, warm presence and caring nature left an undeniable mark on all who knew her. Her ability to provide comfort and love stems from being the eldest daughter of 13 siblings. This made her an exceptional mother and wife, roles she embraced wholeheartedly. Norma’s love for her family and the Catholic Church was unparalleled. She loved to cook and share meals with family and friends. Additionally, Norma had a flair for fashion, with a particular fondness for cosmetics and shoes.
Norma is survived by her husband, two kids, 4 grandchildren: Isaiah Noah & Isabella Sofia Ortega and Caleb Anthony & Olivia Grace Sagun, 5 sisters: Lynn, Edna, Agnes, Arlyn & Amy, and 5 brothers: Fidel, Rudy, Romy, Grandy & Joel.
Along with her parents, Norma is also preceded in death by her 3 brothers: Leonardo, Noli, and Raymond.
Norma’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her laughter, love of life, and ability to make everyone feel cherished will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
Viewings will be held on September 11, 2024 at 4pm-8pm and September 12, 2024 at 12pm-8pm at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions. The Memorial Service will take place at 11am at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church. Per her final wishes, she will be laid to rest in the Philippines alongside her parents and siblings.
