Norman L Smith, born on January 24, 1947, in Belzoni, Mississippi, passed away on January 23, 2026, at the age of 78. He was a resident of Houston, Texas, and is remembered as a devoted family man with a passion for life and a generous spirit.
Norman was the son of Austin Presswood and Johnnie Mae Smith. He graduated from Reagan High School and furthered his education at the University of Houston, where he earned a degree in History and Accounting. His career spanned four decades as a senior tax advisor at Cooper Cameron Oil, from which he retired in 2012.
On July 26, 1969, Norman married Wynona Sue Meyer, with whom he shared a long and loving marriage until her passing. He is preceded in death by his wife Wynona Sue, his son Barry Louis, his parents, and siblings Nan, Ronny, Donny, and George. He is survived by his son Kyle and wife Kathie, and their sons Koen and Kole; his daughter-in-law Nina; and his grandchildren Kendall Leigh Abrarpour and husband Pejmon, Robyn Nicole Smith, and Clayton Louis Smith. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Phoebe Adelina and Jack Alden Abrarpour.
Norman was known for his passion for gardening, baking, cooking, woodworking, and reading. He enjoyed classic country music, 50's classic rock & roll, old-time country gospel, and instrumental music like Celtic Women. His remarkably fast wit and hilarious comebacks were cherished by those who knew him best. Norman was devoted to his family and worked diligently to ensure their well being , coming from humble beginnings and rarely complaining. He was generous with his love and time, always willing to lend a listening ear.
Norman's legacy is one of love, devotion, and service to others. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
