Olevia Harvey Hewitt

Obituario de Olevia Harvey Hewitt
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park

December 9, 1926, Ed Harvey and Georgia Jones Harvey brought into this world their second set of twins Olevia and Herbert. Olevia Harvey Hewitt, aka Mom, Grandma, “Sweetie’ was the 11th of 12 children born to Ed and Georgia in ‘Nine Forks’ Minden Louisiana.

She was educated in the Webster Parish Public School system attending Webster High School. She found herself having to fall under the paths and reputation of her ten older siblings and many “Harvey” cousins who’d previously attended the schools.

Olevia accepted Christ at an early age, initially baptized at Hopewell Church in Minden. Later in life after having moved to Houston, Texas she worshiped at Christian Hope Baptist Church. While at Christian Hope, under the leadership of the Reverend Herbert Stroman, Olevia was “... a faithful member, avidly supporting the Missionary and Willing Workers groups…” at her church. In her later years Olevia renewed her commitment to Jesus Christ through christening in the Catholic faith and became a member of St. Peter the Apostle parish.

Olevia married Essic “Beaver” Hewitt of Gibsland on June 28, 1948, and they shared 42 fruitful years until his passing in August 1990. They moved to Houston, Texas where siblings from his and her families had relocated. She briefly held some domestic positions but working for someone else was not her cup of tea. Though, Beaver was employed by Sheffield Steel (later renamed Bethlehem Steel), Olevia worked to successfully run the variety of enterprises she and Beaver started.

Olevia was the last survivor of the tight knit, loving and fun-loving Harvey clan. She held on to the spirit of family by holding her progeny together through holiday traditions, (Thanksgiving and Christmas) family reunions especially those held in Vegas and sitting around her kitchen table trash- talking you while she beat you at dominoes… with a little shot of something in a glass.

Olevia-Mom, Grandma, Sweetie will be sorely missed by Her three (3)loving children -Clementine “Tina”, Marsha and Essic Jr “J. R.”; six (6) grandchildren, ten(10) great-grandchildren and two (2) great, great grandchildren. Also, left to remember her are a host of nieces and nephews…including a multitude of greats and great-greats, relatives and friends.

Everybody loved being “grandma’s Hands…”
