

Oscar Bartholemew Herrera went to be with our Lord on Thursday, June 14, 2012. Affectionately referred to as "Ta" by his grandchildren, Oscar was born August 24, 1929 in El Paso, Texas to Jose Nemesio Herrera, and Maria Escarcega, from Mexico. After attending El Paso's Cathedral High School, he joined the U.S. Navy assigned to the Connecticut submarine base, Honorably Discharged in 1950. After returning home, he married Hilda Porras in 1954. He attended Texas Western University, earning a Metallurgical Engineering degree with honors in 1965. That same year, Oscar moved with wife and four children to Houston to work for Armco Steel Company (aka - AK Steel), as a Process and Quality Control Supervisor. He retired in 1984.
For many years Oscar was an active member and officer of the Sembradores De Amistad Educational Foundation in which he helped fund scholarships for students around the Houston area. Other memberships included Mexico Bello, Southwest Lions Club, and Familias Unidas.
Oscar was a devoted husband, father, and loving grandfather, never missing an opportunity to be with family he loved so dear. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Hilda and children Oscar F., William and wife Judy, Rosario and husband Patrick, and Rafael and wife Vivian and his eight beautiful grandchildren Luke, Olivia, Caleb, Chloe, Ethan, Roberto, Claire, and Isabella; all the light of his life. His continuous care and meticulous memory will be so missed. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012, 5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m, Rosary at 7:00 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77025. Interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
