She attended Thomas Jefferson High School where she was captain of the nationally acclaimed Lassos. She also attended Incarnate Word College and The University of Texas. Patricia taught third grade at Sacred Heart Academy. She never gave a grade lower than a C. She said, “There are many kinds of intelligence. Why destroy a person’s life long ego with a low grade in book learning?”
Throughout her life she had many interesting occupations. She worked as a Manager at Express News in San Antonio; a real estate broker, and she was an owner of a cake shop. Patricia, also known as P’lar, had a love of genealogy and passing down stories about her interesting ancestors. Her great grandfather, Ludwig Blenker, was the leader of the 1848 Revolution in Germany. When he immigrated to America, he became a General in the Union Army and developed a friendship with Abraham Lincoln.
Her father, Arthur Roemer, joined the Merchant Marines when he was sixteen. He was wounded in the Boer War. Later, he railroaded in Mexico. His trains were often commandeered by Pancho Villa. Patricia had a lifelong love of knowledge. She also believed that all are equal in the eyes of God. This was her keystone.
Patricia passed peacefully in her sleep, just as she wanted. She knew God and had faith in all of his plans. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her infectious laugh, smile, wit and sense of humor will live on in our memories.
