Pat was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on September 2,1939 to Doris (Barrett) and Jacob (JT) Pryor. She was the treasured only child that united two unique families. JT’s large and extended family visited often at Mama and Papa Pryor’s in Corsicana where Pat enjoyed the extended company of hugging aunts, uncles and near-aged cousins. At Grandma Barrett’s in Big Springs she had the single attention of her maternal grandmother and learned how to garden, cook and can (skills she never mastered nor cared to), pray, and read the Bible.
JT worked the oil fields and after stints in west Texas and New Mexico his little family landed in Gainesville (TX) where Pat attended and graduated from Gainesville High School. Here she met her lifelong sweetheart, Ronald Lyle whom she married in February 1960. She graduated from Texas Tech University and had their daughter Kathy. Ron and Pat settled in the suburbs of Dallas, and Pat went to work for the City of Plano (TX) Public School System. She returned to school and picked up her Masters’ in Education from the University of North Texas. She taught elementary and middle school social studies and served as a school counselor - jobs she loved and enjoyed. In 1986, they moved to Santa Fe (NM) and Pat tried her hand in real estate. Ron and Pat missed Texas and moved back to the Houston area where Pat came back to counseling work in the Katy (TX) school system. Soon, she and Ron settled into retirement. Tending her husband, home and family, her nose firmly planted in a book, attending to her church life and faith and friends filled her life.
Left to celebrate and miss her are her husband of nearly sixty years, Ronald, her daughter, Kathy Clarke and her beloved grandson Sam. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Lyle, nephew Butch (Mary) Lyle and niece, Megan (Adam) Taback.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to a charitable organization of choice.
Friends are invited to remember her and join the family at Brookside Funeral Home-Cypress Creek anytime on Sunday, December 29 between 11AM-1PM for a drop-in remembrance.
