Patricia Jean Wood, nee Klump, was born in Perry County Missouri on February 18, 1932, to Helen and Alvin Klump. She was affectionately known as Pat to her family and friends and as Patsy to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She passed away on October 26, 2025 in Houston, Texas where she had resided for almost 60 years and was a resident at The Buckingham for the past few years.
Pat was proud of her mid-western roots and led an idyllic childhood growing up in Perryville, Missouri where her grandfather was the town merchant in a town where everyone knew one another. She was an only child but had a passel of cousins with whom she shared many happy times and memories. She attended St Vincent school from kindergarten through high school. At age 19, while riding a bus to Cape Girardeau where she attended college at Southeast Missouri State College, Pat had the blessed fate of sitting next to Charlie Wood. They were passengers in life together for 57 years before Charlie’s passing in 2010.
After marrying in 1953 Pat and Charlie began their lives together in Hawaii where he was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu and where they welcomed their first child, Dave. After returning to the mainland, their next stop was Columbia, Missouri where Charlie completed his degree and their son Tom was born. After graduation Pat and Charlie settled in St Louis and welcomed their daughter Susan. Pat was a loving and supportive wife and an incredible mother. She was a homemaker who did not care for housework. As a gift she was once given a plaque reading “Housework Makes You Ugly”. Pat was beautiful.
Charlie’s career brought Pat to Houston in 1967 where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends. Pat was an excellent athlete enjoying tennis at the Houston Racquet Club, golf at Lakeside Country Club, and lake life at April Sound.
Pat’s favorite pastime was playing bridge and working on her “masters points”. She was keenly interested in history and genealogy and after being engaged in research into her roots for many years was admitted as a Daughter of the American Revolution and was a member of the Perry Country Historical Society.
Pat was an incredibly generous person. She was reserved yet loving. She was humble and kind. Remembering her with love are her children Dave (Jan), Tom (Carrie), and Susan (Ken); her grandchildren David (Cabell) Wood, Mackie (David) Tschoepe, Kendall (John) Edel, Lindsey Pogson and Kyle Pogson. As well as her great-grandchildren Walker, Sutherland and Lewis Wood and Sutton and Charlie Tschoepe.
