Patsy Farris was born on March 8, 1939 in Amarillo, Texas to Orville and Althea Ellis. Her mother died tragically when Patsy was only seven years old and her father passed away a decade later. She had two siblings, Jean Sample and Don Ellis who have proceeded her in death. She graduated from high school in Amarillo.
She met and married the love of her life, Johnny Farris in 1957 while Johnny was stationed in the Air Force in Amarillo. A year later they were blessed with their only son, Michael.
Patsy was a devoted wife and mother who loved to take care of friends and family and became a great cook whose food was loved by all. She and Johnny were brave entrepreneurs who opened and operated several restaurants through the years. Patsy loved children and worked in many schools as a paraprofessional and touched many young lives. Her last professional job was in a high school special education cooking class where she was able to teach important skills to young people.
She and Johnny were excellent parents to Mike and welcomed Cathy, Mike’s wife, into their family as their own in 1979. Patsy and Johnny took joy in being involved grandparents. She was well known on the soccer fields as the grandma with the endless orange slices and juice boxes. She was MawMaw to Michael, Rachel and Matthew. MawMaw and PawPaw never missed a graduation, sporting event, Christmas or concert.
When Johnny passed in 2018, Patsy was heartbroken and a long way from the rest of the family and decided to move closer to Mike and Cathy. Although she missed her life in Oklahoma, she found herself in the suburbs of a big city. She adapted quickly and was able to navigate the big Lincoln wherever she wanted to go. She was soon in her element. She loved her two great grandchildren, Emma and LIzzie and spent endless hours cooking and gardening with them and doing art projects.
On Patsy’s last night, she and Mike sat on a bench by the lake and reminisced about good memories they had and enjoyed a special sunset. They enjoyed the last year and a half and had a routine of phone calls, visits and meals. There is a huge hole in the hearts of Mike, Cathy and the rest of the family. Patsy was well loved and cherished.
Patsy will return home to Oklahoma to join Johnny soon. Together they will spend eternity together in God’s embrace. The graveside service is pending.
