July 1925 – October 2011
Pat Hall was born in Oklahoma City on the 4th of July, 1925 to Mike and Marie Moore. Pat was the first of 3 children. The family moved to Houston when World War II began, and Pat spent her young adult years in the Houston Heights area. Pat graduated from Lanier High School in May of 1943. In July, when she had just turned 18, Pat was stricken with polio. Her fiance’ Bruce Campbell was killed in World War II.
Pat attended Mary-Hardin Baylor College, majoring in History with a minor in Business Administration. In 1948, Pat married Calvin Hall, a WWII veteran. The couple moved to California and Pat gained confidence and stature in the field of business operations and procedures. While the couple was living in Macon, Georgia, Pat had two children of her own, Calvin and Jesse. After the couple divorced, Pat entered the work force with an unrelenting drive and work ethic that few will ever match. She was a guiding force in the business world, helping the President and First Lady Health Club become the largest and most profitable health club chain in America, now known as Bally’s.
In 1976, Pat decided to work for herself as a free-lance business consultant. Fortunately, this gave her time to work with clients, keep all the profits, invest in prime pieces of real estate, renovate and profitably sell. Unfortunately, health problems arose and Pat was forced to retire in 1993. Pat was politically active, particularly during the election campaign of Texas governor Ann Richards, and attended the Governor’s inauguration by invitation. She also worked with the Houston Gay and Lesbian Caucus.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jimmy and David Moore, and her partners Norma Orr and Suzie Chambliss. She is survived by her children Calvin Hall, Jr., Jesse Hall and his wife Charlene; granddaughter Chenoa and her husband Marc Campbell and their children Alana and Kira; grandson Joshua Hall and his wife Nikki and their children Nathaniel and Jaiden; grandson Matthew Hall and his fiancée Michaela Hall, and close family friend Jim Ginter and his children Kristin, Kaitlyn and Jim’s grandson Bradley.
A memorial celebration will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 25 at Rudyard’s British Pub, 2010 Waugh Drive. At 86 years old when she passed, Pat had the misfortune of outliving most of her friends and colleagues, but her legacy will live on. The Montrose area was her lifelong love and so it is only fitting that her memorial service will be held at Rudyard’s Pub, a bar that Pat once owned. The blue tile on the bar that she laid with her own hands is still there and a constant reminder that she was once a vital influence to the community. We will be celebrating Pat’s life and sharing stories of her that are close to our hearts. Please, no gifts or flowers as Pat would see that as “a waste of time and money that could be better spent on the things you need for your own family”, a phrase we heard every Christmas and 4th of July when she would receive a present.
We also wish to thank Lelia Rodgers for the use of Rudyard’s; her generosity in this time is greatly appreciated.
