Pauline Christine Lucia, age 82, passed away peacefully at home in Rosenberg, Texas on September 23, 2023. She was born on October 9, 1940, to parents Sam Joseph Lucia and Hazel Cook Lucia in Houston, Texas and she resided in the Houston area all her life.
Pauline graduated in January 1962 from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in English and History and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She spent most of her professional career as a fourth-grade teacher at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and School in Houston and then as a middle school teacher at Sartartia Middle School in Sugarland until she retired in 2005.
Pauline was passionate about three things - education, animals, and her grandchildren. She loved teaching and believed education was one of the most important gifts she could impart. She was proud of her students and loved hearing from them and what they went on to accomplish. She was devoted to her animals throughout her life and was most concerned about ensuring their care after she passed. She spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren and spent countless hours chauffeuring them all over the place.
Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Hazel Lucia and her great-granddaughter, Emmalynn Nicole DeAngelo. She is survived by her children, Christine (Rodney) Brinkley and Sam (Deanna) Lucia; grandchildren MaryBeth (Connor) DeAngelo, Joseph Malcolm Brinkley, Samantha Christine Lucia, James “Jimmy” Norwood Lucia, and great-grandchildren Joseph Elliott DeAngelo and Owen Patterson DeAngelo (arriving Dec. 1, 2023).
A visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Tuesday, October 3, followed by a simple service at 6pm at Earthman Funerals located at 8303 Katy Frwy, Houston, TX 77024. A graveside service will occur at 10am on Wednesday, October 4 at Forest Park Lawndale on 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
Please meet inside the Funeral home at 9:45am.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in Pauline’s memory to the Warrior Dog Foundation (www.warriordogfoundation.org) to support the transition of our country’s Military and Law Enforcement Working Dogs from an operational environment into retirement, providing mental and physical rehabilitation and rehoming options to K9 veterans and retirees that would otherwise be euthanized.
