Philip C. Booth passed away peacefully Sunday, August 3 in Houston, TX. Born in Houston March 5, 1952, Philip spent his last three years at The Buckingham Healthcare Center in Houston and enjoyed bantering with the nurses and staff, while appreciating their excellent care and compassion. Thanks to the staff for taking good care of him and encouraging his positive attitude.
A lifelong resident of Bellaire TX, Philip graduated from Westbury High School and the University of Texas El Paso, with a degree in Radio-Television Production. After a brief time as a disk jockey for a Houston area FM classical music station, he joined the University of Houston staff, where he worked alongside many University of Houston faculty and instructors for 40 years producing TV for instructional materials and courses. He managed teams of students and professionals creating broadcast videos and, as technology advanced, creating videos for distribution on the internet.
Philip participated in many activities and organizations in the Bellaire and Houston area, including producing videos of City of Bellaire city council meetings. He was a longstanding member and leader of the Houston Area Apple Users Group, serving as its president for several years. Philip spent many joyful years as a hot air balloon pilot in the Houston area and at many hot air balloon festivals. As a radio/TV professional, Philip was also very involved in the now defunct International TV Association (ITVA, later called MCAI), including serving in leadership roles.
With his good friend Georgette Michko, he enjoyed Houston Symphony concerts and Houston Grand Opera performances, as well as exhibits at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. They also shared a passion for Houston sports, especially the Houston Astros.
Philip is survived by his brother Dr. David C. Booth (Louise) of Lexington, Kentucky, and his sister Nancy Pechacek of Norman, Oklahoma, as well as four nephews, a niece and three grandnieces and two grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Elizabeth Booth.
