Philip was born in the Quaker Gap Township area of North Carolina on May 21, 1933 to Troy Monroe and Ida Belle (Carson) Nunn. This is located just east of Pilot Mtn, N.C. He served approximately 22 years in the Air Force and then the Army where he retired in 1973 at the rank of First Sergeant (E-8). He was both a Korean and Vietnam war veteran. Upon retirement, he drove for Continental Trailways and Greyhound Bus Lines. Throughout his life he loved tinkering with cars and trucks. In his early years he ran moonshine in N.C. where it was told to me, by a preacher that grew up with him, that he invented the 1st car burglar alarm. He switched the wiring of the horn and floor starter button. So, when they pushed the starter, the horn would come on to alert him and others.
He married LaQuita Fae Vawter on September 5, 1953 in Lake Charles, La. They had 5 children; Philip Delano Nunn Jr., Richard "Rickey" A. Nunn, Karen Renee Creswell, Sharon Denise Klein and Randell Nunn; in addition to 5 grandchildren. He had 3 brothers, 1 sister: Foster B Nunn, Troy A. Nunn, Pashel V. "Sammy" Nunn, Geraldine Mae Nunn. He also had 2 half siblings, Sharon Jean (Diane) Nunn and Joe Inman
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, LaQuita Fae Nunn; son, Richard "Rickey" A. Nunn; father, Troy M. Nun; mother Ida Belle Nunn; brother, Foster B. Nunn and sister Geraldine Nunn. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother at the age of 111, Lillie Mae Young Nunn.
He is now been re-joined with his love, LaQuita Fae (Vawter) Nunn.
