Phyllis Ann Masters Womac passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, at the age of 97. Born in Lowellville, Ohio, to Andrew and Ann Masters, Phyllis grew up in a loving home that instilled in her both resilience and grace. She graduated from Villa Maria Academy in Villa Maria, Pennsylvania, where her intelligence and quiet determination first began to shine.
Independent, poised, and unmistakably strong, Phyllis carried herself with a quiet confidence that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her striking red hair and impeccable sense of style were just the surface of a life defined by courage, character, and deep devotion to her family.
In 1946, at just 18 years old, Phyllis boarded a train bound for New York City with nothing but determination and a dream—to become a model. She enrolled at the renowned Barbizon Modeling School, where she refined her natural poise and talent. Her time at Barbizon laid the foundation for what became a successful modeling career in New York City. Her bravery and ambition during those early years shaped a life full of adventure, independence, and grace.
It was in New York that she met a young Texan and WWII Marine Corps veteran, Herschel Daniel Womac, who had moved to the city after the war. Though she had many admirers, it was Herschel who ultimately captured her heart. The two married in 1950, beginning a love story that spanned more than 50 years and built the foundation for a beautiful life together.
Phyllis and Herschel eventually settled in Houston, Texas, where they raised four children: Wayne, Kevin, Brian, and Lisa. She was a devoted wife, a fiercely loving mother, and later, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Her sharp wit, elegance, and unwavering strength were the heart of the Womac family.
Phyllis had a deep appreciation for history and beauty, which she expressed through her love of antiques. She spent many joyful hours collecting and curating treasures, always on the hunt for something with character and a story. Her passion for antiques reflected her own timeless charm and eye for detail.
In addition to her love for antiques, Phyllis was deeply devoted to her children’s sports activities. She faithfully shuttled them to and from practices and never missed a game. That same dedication extended to her grandchildren—cheering them on at countless baseball and football games, from little league all the way to college matchups at Rice University. Even in her later years, she continued to follow youth and seasonal sports with great enthusiasm, always staying connected to the games and the players she loved.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Herschel Daniel Womac; her daughter, Lisa Ann Womac; her parents, Andrew and Ann Masters; her sisters, Elaine Masters Schraum and Patricia Masters; and her brother, Colonel Edgar Masters.
Phyllis leaves behind her beloved children: Wayne and his wife Carolyn, Kevin, and Brian and his wife Jessica. She was a proud grandmother to Robyn and her husband Aaron, Kristen and her husband Thomas, Brandon, Brian II and his wife Madison, Angela, Amy, and Addison. She also cherished her great-grandchildren, Shepherd and Reese. In addition, she is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, including her step-grandchild Reagan, her husband James Wilson, and their daughter Roe.
A faithful catholic, she loved Jesus and her Saint Cecilia Church, which she attended weekly since 1958.
Phyllis Womac lived a life marked by boldness, grace, and unwavering love. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, style, and family devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
