The world lost a kind, gentle, and bright star on Tuesday, the 15th of July 2025. Pinckney Franklin “Frank” Steed Jr. was known for his warm demeanor, welcoming smile, and an insatiable appetite for military history and anything that had to do with the “Old West”.
Frank was born in San Antonio on the 21st of July 1935, to Pinckney Franklin Steed MD and Yeola Stitt Steed.
During his high school years at Texas Military Institute (TMI) in San Antonio, Frank was a hard-working student. Among his chief accolades was when he was recognized by being chosen to the Honor Guard that welcomed General Douglas MacArthur, the Supreme Commander of the Allied forces during WWII, to a ceremony at the famed Alamo. Frank was also an exceptional athlete who earned All-State honors in basketball.
After completing high school, he attended and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in accounting. A few years after commencement Frank moved to Houston and embarked on what would become a forty-eight plus year career as a CPA. Houston was not only his new hometown but also where he met and married his loving wife, Sabra Stratton Steed, of over sixty years.
Frank was a devoted husband and father but most importantly he was a devout follower of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Always endeavoring to strengthen his bond with the Lord he involved himself in Community Bible Study and the Bible Study Fellowship.
With a deep knowledge of numerous issues and topics he was always desirous to share his wisdom with others. No matter what one’s station in life he treated all with respect and kindness. This was unequivocally the result of the influence that his Lord and Savior had on him.
Frank also committed his time and energy to his community. He was elected to be the treasurer of the Harris County Republican Party, President of the Houston Beta Theta Pi Alumni Association, an active member of the Rotary, Jaycees, and Toastmasters International where he won the award for his extemporaneous speaking ability. Additionally, he served his country honorably as a Captain in the United States Army.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Pinckney Franklin Steed MD and Yeola Stitt Steed; and his sister, Yeola Steed Mitchell.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sabra Stratton Steed of over 60 ½ years; his sons, Scott Franklin Steed MD and wife Melanie, daughter, Londyn Steed Bolls and husband Hull, and son John Miller; son Toryn, Mark Stratton Steed and wife Monica, and sons, Rhett, Shane, and Sloane. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Melvin Mitchell; nephews, Lane Mitchell and wife Charlotte, Bill Mitchell and wife Margaret, Andrew Mitchell and wife Leah; cousins, Arthur Clements and wife Trish, Skipper Mixson and wife Betsy, Sue Smith, and Virginia Story.
