April 21, 1936 – March 23, 2025
Pura Amparo Lopez, 88, was born on April 21, 1936, in San Nicolas de los Garza, Nuevo Leon and passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2025, in Sugar Land, TX.
Amparo lived in San Nicolas until she married and made the courageous decision to leave her family and hometown behind to start a new family in Missouri City, Texas with her husband, Pablo (Paul) Lopez. Together they raised two children, Elizabeth (Liz) Lopez and Paul Anthony Lopez and lived a beautiful, loving life.
Amparo most enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who brought her so much joy. She was often found reminiscing at the beautiful life she built by looking at all the family photos/albums she accumulated over the years. She loved cooking and baking and was well-known for her delicious Hojarascas (Mexican cookies), especially on birthdays and special occasions. She was also skillful at crocheting blankets she lovingly gifted to family members. Her guilty pleasure was watching her telenovelas and learned to speak English from watching American soap operas. Once she honed her English language skills it encouraged her to reach her goal of becoming a US citizen in 1989. She was very proud of that accomplishment as was her family. Throughout her life a strong constant was her faith and her deep devotion to the Virgen de Guadalupe/Virgin Mary of Guadalupe. She petitioned to the Virgen de Guadalupe every morning and every evening without fail.
Amparo is survived by her children, Liz, Paul Anthony, Paul’s wife Linsey, and their children, Ella and Livia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pablo Lopez, her parents Leobardo and Ignacia Maria Cantu Lozano and her siblings, Oscar Lozano Cantu, Aracelia Lozano Cantu, Edelmiro Lozano Cantu, Laura Lozano Cantu and Palmira Lozano Cantu.
We would like to thank the staff of Fort Bend Healthcare Center, TheraCare Home Health and Altus Hospice for the compassionate care they gave to our mother during her transition. It was genuinely appreciated during a very difficult time. We would also like to thank all of our family and friends for their love, prayers, and visits. It means so much to us.
Amparo will be inurned at the Houston National Cemetery, alongside her husband, on April 21, 2025.
