

Obituary Ray Lee Cox was born April 25, 1951 to James and Elzadie Cox, the last of nine children. He attended Ryan Elementary and later, Kashmere High School. He was a member of the Ryon Sports, the Community Baseball team as pitcher and short stop for both, the Little league and Pony League. He accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend L. T. Jackson. He also attended St. Emanuel Baptist Church as a youth under the leadership of Reverend J. J. Jones. Ray’s attendance at the New Hope Sunday Church School reflected his thoughtful insight and study of the scriptures. He noted in his comments to the Church School that although Gentiles are not the chosen children of God, but adopted children through the saving work of Jesus Christ. He added that adopted children have the same rights as natural born children. Ray worked for Manhattan Construction as a laborer for several years until his health failed. He had a strong love for family. Through the years, he strengthened the faithful relationship with his brother James Cox (Sonny ) and his family and sister Diane Russell. He spent his later years nurturing and strengthening the bond with all of his relatives but especially between his son, Daryl and his grandchildren, Storee and Daryl Cox, Jr. Ray departed this life March 8, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Elzadie Cox, siblings, J. Allen Cox (Sonny), Jessie Cox, Coleman Cox, Jewel Esther Jackson, Juanita Banks, Elzoria Stewart and Aldine Skillern. He leaves to mourn his special friend and companion, Rosilyn Nabors, son, Daryl Cox, mother of Daryl, Florine Jefferson, grand children, Storee and Daryl Cox Jr., Florine Jefferson, sister Ruth Diane Russell, last living aunt, Emma Scales, and beloved sister-in law Gloria Cox ("Glo") and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends of the Ryon Community
