Rey was a devoted family man who deeply cherished his daughters, finding immense joy in their accomplishments and happiness. He felt a great sense of pride in his journey, especially when he earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, a testament to his hard work and dedication. In his moments of leisure, he found solace and joy in bike riding, cooking delicious meals, and cheering for Houston sports, all activities that allowed him to connect with what he loved most.
Rey is survived by his children Genesis Nirvana Zapata; and Annia Graciela Zapata; his father Rey David Zapata Sr. and his mother Hilda Olga Zapata; his siblings Selene Cerda (Steve Cerda), Valeria Olivares (Felix Olivares) and Ezequiel Zapata (Julissa Castellanos); his nieces and nephews Adriana Gonzalez, Derrick Cerda, Eliana Olivares, Elliot Olivares and Lucas Zapata.
Rey was preceded in death by his grandparents Juan Zapata, Elisa Zapata, Antonio Alvarez, and Olga Vazquez.
A visitation for Rey will be held Monday, June 16, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel, 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022. A burial will occur Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Santa Teresa Cemetery, 912 Buschong St, Houston, TX 77039.
Rey era un hombre de familia dedicado que apreciaba profundamente a sus hijas, encontrando una inmensa alegría en sus logros y felicidad. Sintió un gran orgullo por su trayectoria, especialmente cuando obtuvo su licenciatura en ingeniería mecánica, testimonio de su arduo trabajo y dedicación. En sus momentos de ocio, encontraba consuelo y alegría en andar en bicicleta, cocinar deliciosas comidas y animar a los deportes de Houston, actividades que le permitían conectar con lo que más amaba.
A Rey le sobreviven sus hijos Génesis Nirvana Zapata; y Annia Graciela Zapata; su padre Rey David Zapata Sr. y su madre Hilda Olga Zapata; sus hermanos Selene Cerda (Steve Cerda), Valeria Olivares (Felix Olivares) y Ezequiel Zapata (Julissa Castellanos); sus sobrinas y sobrinos Adriana González, Derrick Cerda, Eliana Olivares, Elliot Olivares y Lucas Zapata.
A Rey le precedieron en la muerte sus abuelos Juan Zapata, Elisa Zapata, Antonio Álvarez y Olga Vázquez.

El servicio funeral se llevará a cabo el martes 17 de junio de 2025 de 12:00 p. m. a 1:00 p. m., 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022. El entierro se llevará a cabo el martes 17 de junio de 2025 de 1:30 p. m. a 2:00 p. m. en el cementerio de Santa Teresa, 912 Buschong St, Houston, TX 77039.
