July 22, 1951 – April 6, 2026
Richmond, TX
Rico Magkawas Gonzales, 74, devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, April 6.
Rico was born on July 22, 1951, in Dolores, Philippines, to Apolinario Gonzales and Loleng Magkawas. Rico lived a life defined by dedication, resilience, and joy.
Rico received his education from Our Lady of Sorrows Academy and pursued training in Fine Mechanics through the National Science Development Board (NSDB). He worked as a mechanic with NSDB, as a fabrication staff with Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), and later as a detailing clerk with Texas Cold Finished Steel.
On January 7, 1973, Rico married the love of his life, Victoria Javier Burgos, marking the beginning of a lifelong partnership rooted in love, faith, and family. They immigrated to the United States on October 9, 1989. Together, they raised five children: Arnold (Vanessa), Arvin (Dohnna), Leah (Kelby), Oggie (Ann), and Glory Ann (Jose), who carry forward his legacy.
Rico was a devoted grandfather to Angelo, Arielle, JJ, Malia, Alyssa, JP, Aaron, Jayden, and Max, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He had cooked delicious Filipino dishes for them and babysat them with joy in his heart.
Rico is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Vicki, their children, children-in-law, grandchildren, and his brother Odie. He is reunited in eternal rest with his parents, his grandparents Mauricio Magkawas and Martina Patricio, and his siblings Berting, Cardo, Romualdo, Norma, and Teddy.
Rico was a devoted Catholic and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in the Philippines. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cooking, fishing, singing, dog/horse racing, and, later in life, playing Poker 2.
Known for his humor and vibrant spirit, Rico was truly the life of every gathering, always ready with a joke and a warm dish or two that brought people together. His legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all relatives and friends for their love, support, prayers, and for celebrating Rico’s life with them.
