

On August 22, 2023, Robert Redmond Akeroyd, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and devout Catholic passed away at age 80. Bob was born on December 15, 1942. He was the second of three children to Redmond (Rem) Joseph Akeroyd and Odessa Mignon Edwards Akeroyd who proceeded him in death. Bob is survived by his brother William Stavert Akeroyd and his sister Claudia Akeroyd McQueen (Mike). Bob is survived by his wife, Deborah Burgess Akeroyd, his three daughters, Leslie Gegen (Fred), Denise Scanlin (Mike) and Paula Williams (Sam). He is also survived by his grandchildren Mandy Gegen (Shellie), Ryan Gegen (Megan), Hayley Scanlin-Andon (Rob), Michael Scanlin (Anna), Hilary Scanlin-Wartman (Andrew), Ava and Emma Williams and Tre’ Burgess, his great-grandsons Benjamin Scanlin and soon-to-be Jack Scanlin-Andon. He is also survived by his former wife Nancy Akeroyd and stepsons Cory Burgess and Kyle Burgess (Jessica) and their daughters Raegan and Ryleigh.
Bob grew up in Houston Texas and graduated from Marian High School (1960) and from South Texas Junior College (1971) with an Associates in Arts degree while working full-time at Southwestern Bell and raising three daughters. He went from working in the mailroom, Union Steward and retired as a Sales Manager in 1998. He later was a salesman for Atlas Fence Company for 10 years. After he retired from the fence company he volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Rosary Church carrying on a tradition that was started by his mother and father as founding members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society food pantry at St. Anne’s Church in Tomball, TX.
Visitation and Rosary will be held on August 28 at 6:00 pm with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on August 29 at 9:30 am at Holy Rosary Church, 3617 Milam Street, Houston, TX 77002, followed by the Rite of Committal at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine, Houston, TX 77055. Lunch Reception following at Quail Valley Centre, Bluebonnet Room, 2880 LaQuinta Drive, Missouri City, TX 77459 from noon until 2:30 pm.
