Robert Jay Gould, 55, born August 26, 1965, passed away on Friday, October 02, 2020, in Houston, TX after a long battle with heart disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hsueh and John Gould, and his loyal dog, Lola. Robert is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Becky) Berroth; his sister, Connie Bevill; brother, Andrew Gould; sister in law Rita Gould; three nephews, Alex Loessberg, BJ Loessberg, and Evan Loessberg; his beloved dog, Chase; and his many friends whose lives he so positively influenced over the course of his life. Robert was born in Okinawa, Japan and spent his early years living with his family in Turkey and Alaska while his parents were in the military before moving to Austin, Texas. Enrolling at the University of Texas at Austin in 1983, Robert bled orange. Robert was initiated in the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity where he formed many of the friendships and bonds that would endure for the remainder of his days. While at UT, Robert earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, a Master of Business Administration in Tax, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Following university, Robert embarked on a prosperous career handling mergers and acquisitions for many of the nation’s most successful and prolific companies. In 2003, Robert left the demanding M&A world to concentrate on wealth management and personal business ventures. Robert permanently relocated to Houston in 2013 to live with his devoted wife, Becky, and their two dogs.
Robert touched the lives of everyone he met. His warmth and kindness made him a pleasure to be around. He was a ‘giver’ in every sense of the word and always gave others his best. Robert could talk to anyone about anything and always left others feeling inspired. He was known to know a lot about a lot; there weren’t many topics that Robert couldn’t speak on as if he were an expert. Robert was passionate about learning and teaching others. He had an affinity for life, and enjoyed spending his time working and being with his wife and their dogs. Robert had a special place in his heart for his family and friends, whom he loved dearly. He was full of joy, with a smile that could energize an entire room. He was patient, thoughtful, giving, and caring in ways that few people can imagine. His optimistic attitude allowed him to always see the best in everything and everyone. Robert will live on through the impact he had on others and the love that he showed. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him; he was a wonderful husband, brother, son, uncle, and friend. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made in Robert’s honor to the Houston Humane Society.
