

ROBERT V. NELSON, SR, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, the 27th of March 2012, while surrounded by his family. Born in Oakland, California, on the 8th of April 1920 to Marguerite and Victor Nelson, he moved to Houston in 1945 and married Yvonne Sutherland.
Bob served in the US Army from 1942-1945 on active duty in the South Pacific in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was discharged from the US Army Reserves in 1954 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Before the war, he attended and played basketball for the University of California, Berkley. He spent his professional career with Henke & Pillot grocery and later with the surviving company, Sutherland Properties, Inc.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, the late Yvonne S. Nelson; daughter, Tricia N. Keegan; and brother, Dick. He is survived by his two sons of Houston, William S. Nelson and wife Maria, and Robert V. Nelson, Jr. and wife Cynthia; brother, Pat and wife Lucy of California; grandchildren, Stephanie Nelson Tomson and husband Ross, William S. Nelson, II, Robert V. Nelson, III, all of Houston, Katy Keegan of Beijing, China, and Andrew Keegan of New York; nephew, Steven V. Nelson; nieces, Maria Nelson and Patty Lou Nelson, all of California.
The family gathered for a private interment service on Saturday, the 31st of March, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Laurens A. Hall, Rector of The Church of St. John the Divine, officiated.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, TX, 77019-5826.
