Robert was born November 8, 1948 in Houston Texas to Hiram “Nick” Nickens and Hazel Bales and was the first graduating class from MacArthur High School in 1967.
He is preceded in death by his father, Hiram “Nick” Nickens, his mother Hazel Bales, brother Paul Nickens, nieces, April, Jean Ann and Stephanie Nickens, and niece Renee' Van Slyke.
Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Naomi Nickens; Son Robert “Buddy” Nickens and wife Sissy; siblings, Shirley Van Slyke, David Nickens and wife Karenina, Carlos Bales “Mr. Bull” and wife Patty; Charles “Butch” Bales and wife Candy. Along with his 4-legged couch partner Chiquita, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and drag racing family.
A visitation for Robert will be held Monday, May 19, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A Funeral Service is scheduled to follow and begin promptly at 2:30 PM in Brookside's Grand Oak Chapel. A Graveside Service is scheduled to follow at 3:30 PM at Schlobohm Cemetery, 13520 JFK Blvd., Houston, TX 77039.
