Following his upbringing in Taiwan, alongside his parents and five siblings, Robert proudly served in the Taiwanese Air Force, graduating from the Taiwan Air Force Mechanical School. After completing his military service, Robert married Hwang Ping Wei in 1977, and together they had two children, Karen and Andy. In 1985, seeking a brighter future for his family, Robert immigrated to the United States, where he would later become the proud father of Jack Hsu and Ryan Yeh, whom he officially adopted in 1995. In 2006, he remarried Shu Hua Liu.
The journey to America was not without its challenges. Arriving in a foreign land without speaking the language, Robert worked tirelessly at various odd jobs to support his family. His perseverance paid off when he built a career as an airplane mechanic, specializing in the General Electric J85 jet engine of the T-38 aircraft. These aircraft were used by NASA for astronaut transport and pilot training. In addition to his main job, Robert often worked on home repair projects during his days off to further provide for his loved ones.
Robert's career extended beyond his work as a mechanic. He started his own company Wei Services and later he became the proud owner of Hans Mongolian BBQ and Bubble Island in the Clear Lake community, where he made a lasting impact. He held contracts with prominent companies, including Northrop, DynCorp, CSC, L-3, and Yulista, and eventually rose to the position of shop lead before retiring in December 2024.
Those who knew Robert will remember him for his infectious smile and easygoing nature. He never let life's challenges dampen his spirit, and his laughter was always a comforting presence to those around him. Robert was known for his warm heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He loved spending time with family and friends, enjoying activities such as singing, dancing, playing sports, traveling, and, most of all, playing mahjong. Even in his later years, when his health prevented him from working on jet engines, Robert continued to channel his love for building by creating large Lego sets.
Robert is survived by his first wife, Hwang Ping Wei; his current wife, Shu Hua Liu; his children Karen Wei, Andy Wei, Jack Hsu, and Ryan Yeh; his brothers George Wei, Anthony Wei, and Jack Wei; his sister Judy Wei; and his cherished grandchildren Anabelle Ly, Sophia Ly, Addison Yeh, and Aidan Yeh. He was predeceased by his parents, Ken Hua Wei and Chi Chan Wei, and his older sister, Chun Bee Wei.
Robert’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness extends beyond his immediate family to his extended family, in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will forever hold him in their hearts.
